Elk Falls Cemetery is the City of Campbell River’s municipal cemetery, operated by the City.
Elk Falls Crematorium is a separate, privately operated business located at the cemetery site. It does not operate the cemetery or the green burial area. This site is about the municipal cemetery.

Location, operator and hours.
- Operator
- City of Campbell River. The Mayor and Council are the trustees of the City cemeteries and are responsible for their management, operation and maintenance.
- Address
- On Highway 28 (Gold River Highway). The bylaw records the civic address as 6400 Gold River Highway; the 2026 interment licence prints it slightly differently — confirm the exact address with the City.
- Bookings & payments
- City Dogwood Operations Centre, 385 S. Dogwood Street, Campbell River. Open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; closed weekends and City-observed holidays. Phone 250-286-7275.
- Interment days
- Burials may take place on any day of the week, at a time set with the City. A burial on a Saturday, Sunday or statutory holiday, or one that runs past regular business hours, is charged an overtime fee.
- Visiting hours
- Every day of the year, 7:00 a.m. to one hour after sunset. No one may be in the cemetery between one hour after sunset and 7:00 a.m. without the City’s permission.

The green burial area
How the green burial area works.
A green burial lot at Elk Falls can be bought at the time of need or in advance. Lots are assigned by the City only when one is needed for a burial, and assignment follows the City’s planting and eco-system management plan for the area.
The City installs a communal memorial for the green burial area; there are no individual markers on the lots. Only the City plants or supervises planting, using species native to the local climate, and it may offer the family a choice of planting or a role in planting depending on the lot.
To protect the plantings and the area’s eco-systems, the City may limit, restrict or prohibit visiting individual graves, and may limit vehicle access. It maintains pedestrian paths and visiting zones around the communal memorial.
Green Burial BC lists Elk Falls Cemetery as a hybrid green cemetery. GreenBurialCR has not found Elk Falls listed as a Green Burial Society of Canada approved provider.
